Statement by the Director

Greetings,

I assumed this office with a very ambitious task in mind: to strengthen the role of the Agency on the Slovene capital market and take it to the third millennium. I did not know then that the very first year of my term of office will be characterised by a global financial crisis that also struck hard in Slovenia. I entered the financial market sphere exactly in the moment when markets started first calming down again, following a long period of growth, and then falling to the levels recorded about ten years ago. In spite of the current situation, I believe more firmly than ever that the Slovene market in financial instruments needs a strong and independent supervisor, one that will guide it and always motivate it to strive for excellence, development and competence. I am convinced that safety, transparency, diversity and quality are the competitive advantages of the Slovene financial market, in spite of its minor role at the global level, due to its small volume of investments.

The current situation on the global financial markets forces us to think carefully when selecting the appropriate method for the reorganisation of financial markets in the future, so that these can follow the global providers of financial services. The Agency’s priority in the given situation is to do all it can to support and stimulate the market in financial instruments.  By introducing new practices the Agency is adapting to the general trends and ethical standards dictated by the modern era. Our website has been modernised accordingly – this is another step forward, towards the accessibility and quality of public services.
